FAQs

Green energy is efficient energy!

Before we go solar, here are a few helpful FAQs for your benefit

Am I eligible for a local solar rebate, grant or loan?

Absolutely! For any installation under 100kW and solar systems with a yearly electric output of less than 250MWh, there exists the eligibility for Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs). The eligibility is open for all regardless of whether you have accessed a rebate in prior or not.

What are the requirements to be met by the solar system products to get the STCs?

In order to avail STCs, the products you purchase must come with the Clean Energy Council (CEC) design and installation guidelines, use panels and inverters strictly approved by the CEC, be installed by a CEC accredited installer and meet the standards as prescribed by AS 4777

What's the difference between monocrystalline and polycrystalline solar panels?

Monocrystalline panels comprise singular large crystals, whose cell corners are usually missing. This happens due to its production process. Furthermore, these panels tend to be darker in colour and the texture is more or less uniform. Polycrystalline panels comprise multiple smaller crystals. Unlike their monocrystalline counterparts, these panels are lighter or at times, dark blue. Also, their texture is non-uniform and they tend to bear lighter patches. It has been widely established over the last few years that monocrystalline panels hold a distinct advantage of being the superior technology in the Australian market. This can be attributed to the fact that monocrystalline solar cells tend to produce better peak efficiency as the inherently larger crystal sizes are traditionally very absorbent. Furthermore, this technology was easily available when compared to polycrystalline solar cells. It has to be noted that as of today, both technologies have advanced greatly, thereby bridging the gap between their usage. To put it into perspective, both monocrystalline and polycrystalline panels are absolutely amazing for all forms of solar energy systems in the Australian climate. Instead, it has become increasingly evident that the more important aspect to focus on is the quality of the product, the reliability of the manufacturer and the performance of the product over time. These three factors alone can make all the difference in how much of your energy costs are offset, how long they will yield a return on your investment and how quickly you can receive support if things do go wrong.

How do I choose a better solar panel?

Panel efficiency: It refers to the magnitude of power that each panel can produce for the space it occupies.
  • Better quality of the product: A solar panel with stronger materials, advanced manufacturing, features, resistance to the environmental factors of Australia and strict testing.
  • Better performance parameters: The in-built technological features such as kind of cells, performance during heat, durability and efficiency attributes.
  • Better warranties and companies: A performance warranty of more than 2 decades backed with the trust and quality of a premier company

What is panel efficiency and when do I need a panel with higher efficiency?

Panel efficiency refers to the amount of sunlight that the panel converts into electrical energy. The following two situations call for a panel of higher efficiency:
  • Low roof space: Panels that have a higher efficiency make the most of the roof space available. Having a low roof space translates to better feasibility derived from a high efficiency panel.
  • Shaded roof areas: This helps in deriving maximum feasibility from the areas on the panel that is not shaded.

How does a better inverter help me?

Inverters perform the core task of converting the raw DC (direct current) energy into the usable AC (alternating current) energy, which can be utilised by your home or commercial space.

Apart from the obvious, it also serves the following purposes:

  1. Controls the voltage to derive the maximum power out of the solar system.
  2. Helps in reporting the performance of the system through simple means such as bluetooth or the internet.

Can I add batteries to my solar power system?

Yes, indeed! Solar battery storage systems work independently with respect to solar power systems. As such, batteries can be easily added to a solar power system.

This is known as AC coupling, and it involves the simple addition of a battery and a battery inverter to the solar system.
